Why do I get a rash when I wear my old jewelry?

The short answer is - you're probably allergic to the nickel in your jewelry. Our Stainless and Titanium Jewelry is considered Nickel Free from a hypoallergenic stance. About 15% of the American population has a sensitivity to nickel. The exact cause is still debated among dermatologists, but it is thought that after exposure to nickel, a person's immune system can begin to mistake it for a threat like a bacteria or virus. The immune system then begins to attack the source, causing redness, inflammation and even blistering of the skin. Some people mistake an allergic reaction as an infection, especially in the case of pierced ears. The wearer may think his/her earlobes are infected when they are in fact just reacting to the nickel in the earring itself.

What is Hypoallergenic?

Again, this topic boils down to nickel. While there are varied definitions of the word, and no official entry by the FDA, Hypoallergenic by our definition means "having a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic reaction". Applying this definition to the cases in the above paragraph amounts to a low nickel content. Unless specifically noted, all of our jewelry has an exceptionally low nickel percentage. Thus, our jewelry is considered hypoallergenic and will not cause a nickel reaction in the skin. We guarantee this fact and pride ourselves on offering the largest selection of nickel-free jewelry on the internet!

Why should I buy Stainless, Titanium or Tungsten jewelry?

There are many reasons for you to purchase a piece of jewelry made from Stainless Steel, Titanium or Tungsten.

First off, let's take a look at the strength of these materials compared to their more traditional counterpart. Steel is on the order of 2 times harder than Gold, Titanium is approximately 3-4 times as hard and Tungsten is 10 times. But what about safety? All of these metals can be removed in the case of an emergency, either by shearing, or compressing. This means that these materials will be more scratch resistant, less apt to bend or ovate, and are still safe to wear!

Next up, cost. In the past year, the financial stability of our nation has come into question. Spending 3 months salary on an engagement ring might not be as realizable as it once was. But what about a days pay? The materials we use for our jewelry allow the cost to be considerably less expensive while retaining all of the quality our customers demand.

Lastly, they are wearable. Low nickel means allergy free!

Sizing information

Before you order, please make sure that you have your correct ring size. It is usually best to get a professional to size it for you, unless you already know your correct size. This is very important as these materials cannot be resized, although we do offer 30 day exchanges and returns. We also offer free ring sizers upon request to help you with this decision. Just place an order for this item through our regular checkout process, pick free shipping, and it will be 100% free to you.

What is "Tension Setting"?

A tension setting involves a stone suspended only by the metal from the shank applying pressure to the stone, and thus holding it in place. In other words, a band is cut into a C shape and the two sides of the cut hold the stone in place. You can see our Tension Setting category for more examples.

What is the difference between your finishes?

There are 2 main finishes that our handcrafters use. The first is High Polish, basically a mirror finish on the surface of the ring. This is the most common, and the most traditional of the styles. The other main finish is Matte, a finely brushed effect that dulls the shine on the ring. This second effect is mostly used for patterns, adding dimension or depth, and something we call “banding” – The alternating of polished and matte stripes around the circumference of the ring, resulting in a two-tone effect.
